Chapter 1

The tide chart lied

At dawn the sea went shhh to María, and the gentle waves answered glug against the warm stones. She heard her name in the wash, María, María, a salted lullaby.

The chart crackled, quiet and untrue, while the water sang her another hour.

Note from a reader

This sentence made me go back to the start. Keep it.

Attached to the sentence. Your text is unchanged.

How it works

From draft to reader without a middleman holding the book.

Write

Chapters save on your device as you type. Every version is kept and can be restored.

Publish

One button signs the chapter with your key and sends a copy to readers who follow you.

Follow

Readers paste your public address. Their device pulls your chapters and checks every signature.

Read and respond

A quiet page, a large serif, notes on the sentence, and offline copies that stay.

Everything in the free page

A complete writing and reading room.

Co-write live with people you invite, keep a world bible beside your chapters, run timed sprints, and shelve what you read, including Did Not Finish.

01

Read

  1. Home shows the chapter you were reading, new chapters from authors you follow, and words written today.
  2. The library finds an exact title or author. It never ranks by reads.
  3. Ten rooms. Inside each room, works are ordered by author, then title.
  4. Shelves keep what you are reading, including Did Not Finish.
  5. Article and journal cards are landscape, with a picture or a type cover. A story uses a portrait cover.
  6. An adult work shows a mark. Photos stay blurred until you choose Show images.
  7. The reader has contents, footnotes, a link to each paragraph, text size, and print as a book, an article, slides, or proceedings.
  8. A rating stays on this device, and only after the chapter is open. A review is words about the whole work, written after that. The chapter stays when the network is down.
02

Write

  1. Start a story, an article, or a journal from a blank page, slides, or a resume.
  2. Import Word, Markdown, plain text, a web page, or a route file.
  3. Chapters save on this device. Every version is kept. Named snapshots and compare sit beside the text.
  4. A word goal, a deadline, and a daily streak.
  5. World bible sits beside the paragraph, with pictures.
  6. Plot grid lays threads across chapters.
  7. Timed sprints. Co-write by pasting the other person's public address. Your secret stays on this device. You still publish.
  8. Drafts, the world bible, and the plot never go to the public relay.
03

People

  1. Public address is how readers follow you. There is no account.
  2. An activity list of what happened, and a short presentation on your page.
  3. Telling someone does not change who can read, write, or manage.
  4. A comment sits on the chapter. A note on a sentence can bookmark, agree, disagree, ask for more detail, tag, or reply. The chapter text stays. A note can stay on this device.
  5. A passphrase of 12 characters wraps a backup of the device key. It is not an account.
  6. A private copy is locked on this device. The relay keeps only the locked file.
04

Publish

  1. One button signs the chapter. Frozen copies and dated links stay beside it.
  2. Internet Archive only after you confirm. A chapter feed for readers.
  3. When two copies differ, keep the newer or take the older.
  4. Delete a draft only while it is unpublished.
  5. Export EPUB, Word, Markdown, and a full backup.
  6. English or Spanish menus. Room names follow the menu.
  7. Lookups, charts, a route drawing, pictures with a description, files beside the chapter, and a connection map. A lookup says what leaves the device before it sends.
Promises

  • No ads, ever. There is nothing to remove with a subscription.
  • No ranking by reads, likes, or activity.
  • No account wall. Your key is your identity.
  • Drafts, your world bible, and live co-writing never touch the public relay.
  • Ratings only after a reader opens the chapter.
  • No model is trained on your prose.
  • Cancelling support never unpublishes or shrinks a book.
  • Full export of every work, whenever you want it.
Support

Money pays the maintainer. It never buys rank.

Zeitzung is free to write and free to read. Support pays for the person building it. Higher tiers add dress the book does not need. They do not buy rank, an ad-free switch (there are no ads), or custody of your book. Cancel anytime. The text stays.
